During the 2009 Sea Turtle Nesting season, Turtle Talks were held every Wednesday afternoon from June thru August.
The power point program was given by Bruce Drye, the Florida Marine Turtle Permit Holder for St. George Island. Bruce's 18 years of experience monitoring turtle nesting on St. George enables him to speak about the sea turtles that return here to nest. Attendance at the Turtle Talks ranged from two visitors to 78 visitors and totaled over 550 people in all.
The 20 minute program included facts about nesting female turtles and their hatchlings, duties of the volunteers, the three major threats to our nesting population and what visitors can do to help protect turtles. A question and answer session after the program allowed the visitors to hear additional facts about our turtles.
